Art & Design...

We offer a wide variety of classes that enhance the artistic side of our students. This department offers advanced programs on the computers such as Adobe Photoshop, creative classes such as ceramics, drawing and computer graphics. Our students design brochures for different school events such as the school prom.

Performing Arts...

The objective of the Performing Arts Department's programme is to develop skilled and disciplined theater Arts students who possess a standard of excellence and an appreciation of artistic integrity. The Performing Arts Department strives to challenge students both artistically and intellectually, so that they may become critical and creative thinkers, while developing professional skills and attitudes.

The programme of the Performing Arts Department's includes Acting and Musical Theater, combining rigorous training of the mind, body, and voice, forming a solid technique and approach to the craft. In addition to actor training, students also develop an understanding and appreciation of design and production.

The acting programme emphasizes work in character analysis and interpretation, improvisation, and scene study. Advanced acting courses combine scene study analysis and synthesis, analysis of dramatic literature, theater history, and performance to provide students with a comprehensive program, which would lead to the IB programme.

Every year there will be a Musical Production where the students will have the chance to audition for a part in the production. Through out the year there will be performances with concerts and short plays.

Design & Technology...

At MMS, Design and Technology (DT) is part of the School curriculum for students in grades 5 to 12. This course provides students with a practical based programme, which involves designing, execution, production and evaluation. Through DT we provide a balance within the students’ education by equipping them with skill and knowledge to bring about change, and at the same time, enabling them to shape the environment of the future.

The School Laboratories...

The mission of the School Laboratories is that of involving our students in science experiments and investigative activities, and engaging students in the exploration of science in an exciting and meaningful way. The lab is a place where our young scientists work in problem-solving groups, solve real problems and apply what they know. They are asked to record data, analyse data, and communicate this data in a practical format, such as charts, graphs, and journal writing.

The lab is a place where students are encouraged to ask questions and then search for answers. Opportunities to stimulate curiosity and share new knowledge are maximised as students explore science both in the regular classroom and the science labs. The activities are developmentally appropriate and are designed to motivate students to achieve their potential. The scientific method of problem solving is used in every lab session to ensure that proper thought processes and work skills are developed. Students must be ready to face the challenges of the future, and the many thinking processes they learn in the science lab will serve them well for the rest of their lives. Our labs foster the unique abilities and talents of the students so that they are able to realise their maximum potential and become productive leaders and citizens of the community. This is accomplished by emphasising higher order thinking skills, problem solving, communication, research skills, creativity, self-awareness, and peer interaction.

The labs in the school are intended for students in the first grade up to twelfth grade and are fully equipped with apparatus for different subjects, such as biology, chemistry and physics. Among the varied experiments that we can do in the school labs are those with the latest technology, such as computer-aided experiments where the students can use sensors, interface and computers, which often can help them to carry out experiments and see things that would otherwise be difficult. Data can be collected over very long or very short periods of time, for example, using dataloggers.

One of the benefits of using computer sensors is that you can clearly see the changes that occur in your experiments.

Computer & IT Labs...

We are proud to mention that we have 7 sophisticated labs. One is dedicated to the Kindergarten leaving the other six for the Junior and Senior Schools. We are planning on opening a new lab for applied science technology which will serve the needs of science and mathematical classes.

We have a 512K lease line that serves the entire school 24 hours a day. We use sophisticated software for the library  to give students easy access to their required information. We currently use a database in the registrar's department to keep information related to our students organised in a manner that is easily accessed by authorised members of staff only.

The E-school is now launched, and students will be able to learn online thus creating a link between school and home and enabling students to develop their knowledge, even when they are out of school. The e-school system which has been especially designed and implemented for the Modern Montessori School needs taps into three online user interfaces; Parents, Teachers and Students. It provides a seamless, streamlined integration of functions to provide a truly effective school management including attendance, grading, class scheduling, communications, online controlled chatting, and much more.  In addition to E-learning, we are also working on providing students and staff access to accounting and registration information via the Internet.

University Advice

The general goal of the University Advising department at the Modern Montessori School is to prepare students for university regarding career and subject choices.  Teaching students how to research for university requirements is key to them learning how to make informed decisions.

We have tried to reverse the career choosing process whereby in the past students would have chosen subjects in the IB program and tried to figure out what career suits these subjects.  Now, guidance is given to students starting from grade 9 telling them more about different careers and what general university requirements there are.  Career Days have been most successful giving students the chance to see for themselves the reality of different professions.

The University Advising department has also coordinated with other departments to ensure that topics taken in class correspond to those necessary to ensure success at entrance requirement examinations such as the SAT I and the TOEFL.

School Activities...

The school has devoted considerable attention to extra-curricular activities, believing them to be significant to the development of a student’s personality and to the consolidation of the school’s relationship with the surrounding local community.  These activities range between purposeful, educational activities and enjoyable, entertaining activities.  Two groups are responsible for initiating and following up on these activities:

  •  The Activities Department: This comprises a number of teachers from different departments, who manage the students’ activities, involving as many students as possible in the process.
  • The Student Council: This comprises a number of elected students, representing their classes and participating in organising the various activities.  They also represent the interests of the students who elected them vis-à-vis the school administration.

The school activities are divided into two main sections:

  • Internal Activities, which comprise all activities which are organised within the school.  They include seminars, educational competitions, activity lessons, festivals, parties, etc.
  • External Activities, which comprise all activities that are organised outside the school, such as school trips, field trips, camps, voluntary work, etc.
Athletics at the Modern Montessori School...

The Montessori philosophy advocates, among other things, the development of the body as well as the mind. Athletic activities, therefore, play an important role in preparing students of all ages physically, morally, psychologically and socially.

Sport is an oasis for spending valuable time and instilling high values in our youth and preparing them for life, fortified with experience and competitive spirit.

Competitive team sports at the Modern Montessori School include: swimming, basketball, soccer, Tae Kwon Do, gymnastics, volleyball.

Sports...

We distinguish ourselves from others with our various sports facilities:

  • An Indoor Swimming pool (16 meters x 8 meters)

  • Outdoor facilities:

    • Basketball Courts.

    • Handball Court.

    • Badminton Court.

    • Soccer Fields.

  • Indoor Facilities:

    • Gymnasium

    • Tae Kwon Do Hall

    • Aerobics Studio

In the near future a new Gymnasium will be built according to international specifications. Plans are well advanced and we expect it to be completed soon.

We begin every school year with competitive tryouts with the aim of forming strong sports teams that best represent the school. One of our main activities is the Little League that involves 8 months of training, unlike any other Little League team in the Kingdom.

In the school year 1996/1997, the MMS hosted the 1st Montessori Olympics which included a wide range of activities and competitions involving 7 schools, 7 competitions and 350 students.

In 2005/2006, the Seventh Montessori Tournament was held which included 10 soccer age groups, 9 basketball age groups, Gymnastics, Volleyball, Swimming and, for the first time in Jordan, rhythmic Tae Kwon Do for schools. 24 private schools participated in the 7th tournament with a total of 3112 athletes, 52 referees, 8 organizers and 118 coaches.

The Athletics Department also organizes the KG Tele-Match, grades 1-3 Tele-Match, grades 4-6 Tele-Match and a parent/teacher soccer tournament, as well as Soccer, Basketball and Volleyball tournaments in break times for grades 4-11.

The Athletics Department offers a wide variety of extra curricular activities for KG – 6 such as Gymnastics, Swimming, Tae Kwon Do and Kids Fit. Furthermore, the Modern Montessori School has a distinguished program in the Soccer and Basketball Little League. The numbers of participants in the extra curricular activities for the second semester for year 2006/2007 are 141 out of 182 from the KG and 318 out of 630 from Grades 1-6.

Clinic...

We have a highly qualified doctor and a nurse who manage the clinic and are available at all times when needed by students and the school's staff.

The clinic is fully equipped with all the necessary medical supplies that may be needed at any time.
